Features to know about

Free Up Your Truck Bed: All-in-One 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box

When you’re switching between towing and hauling, a bulky fifth wheel hitch can eat up valuable bed space. This all-in-one Gen-Y pin box replaces the factory pin box on your trailer and connects directly to your gooseneck hitch ball—no extra adapters needed. Once unhitched, your bed is completely clear for cargo or work use. With a 30,000-lb towing capacity and 4,500-lb pin weight rating, it’s built to pull serious loads without the extra clutter.

Smooth Out the Ride: Built-In Shock Absorbing Torsion System

Diagram of a torsion axle suspension system showing axle tube, torsion arms, and rubber cords used to absorb road shock, illustrating how trailer torsion axles function and provide a smooth ride.

Towing a fifth wheel can mean bouncing and jerking every time the road gets rough. The internal torsion design in this Gen-Y box works like a torsion axle, using rubber cords and pivoting bars to isolate motion between truck and trailer. It cuts down on fore-and-aft chucking and vertical jarring so you feel fewer hits and less vibration through your rig. There are no air bags to fill or moving parts to maintain—just dependable cushioning every trip.

Simple to Use: Auto-Latch Coupler Hooks Up Fast

Hitching up shouldn’t mean climbing in and out of the bed. The auto-latch mechanism locks onto the 2-5/16" gooseneck ball as soon as it’s seated, so connection is quick and secure. When you’re ready to unhook, release it and you’re done. It’s a clean, straightforward setup that saves time while giving you a tight, confident fit.

Heavy-Duty and Low Maintenance: Steel Construction with Fewer Parts

Close-up diagram of the Executive fifth-wheel trailer hitch showing detailed components and connection points, illustrating construction and function of the heavy-duty towing hitch system.

This pin box is made from heavy-duty steel and finished with a durable powder coat that resists wear and corrosion. Because there are no air lines, pumps, or small parts to service, upkeep is minimal. The design bolts on using your trailer’s existing hardware and mounting holes, making installation simple and solid.

Confidence in the Connection: Designed for Lippert 1621/1621HD

Built as a direct replacement for Lippert 1621 and 1621HD pin boxes, the Gen-Y #GY38FR integrates with your trailer frame instead of clamping over it. The fit and function are precise, ensuring proper towing geometry and strength. With its 5-year limited warranty and proven torsion technology, it’s a strong, reliable solution for anyone converting from a fifth wheel to a gooseneck setup.

Best upgrade I have done on my RV. Hitching up a gooseneck is a little more difficult but well worth it. It allowed me to remove the large heavy 5th wheel hitch out of the bed of the truck. I love the damping of the trailer bouncing. This hitch allows my RV move with the truck and I don’t feel that bounce of the truck is passed to the RV hitch like it was with the 5th wheel hitch. Hitch is heave and it really would help to have two people to install it. I’ve done it twice. Once with help and once without. Using the bed of the truck and a lever I was able to install the hitch myself.

After giving y'all requested measurements and pin box numbers the item still would not work and they refused to make it right without a fee. Poor communication and poor service. Not to mention it was over a month late to deliver. will never recommend y'all nor buy from y'all.

Sorry about that Todd, I'll get that straightened out.

ACTUALLY IT IS NOT THE HITCH THAT IS THE ISSUE, WE ORDERED THE GEN Y FOR THE 1621 PIN BOX PER YOUR WEBSITE, AND IT DID NOT FIT, THEN WE ORDERED ANOTHER HITCH (DIFFERANT PART #) FROM GEN Y'S WEB SITE, IT DID NOT FIT EITHER, BOTH HITCHES HAD A 8 1/2" SPREAD ON THE BOLT PATTERN, OUR LIPPERT 1621 HAD AN 8" SPREAD. WE CALLED GEN Y AND THEY INFORMED US THAT IT IS THE LIPPERT 1621 BUT IT HAS THE RINO BOLT PATTERN. SO 3 HITCHES FROM 2 COMPANIES, PLUS GOOD OL NTP KNOWLEDGE AND NO ONE HAD AN OPTION FOR WHAT I NEEDED, BUT THE GEN Y GUY TOLD US WHAT HITCH TO GET.

Hey Bryan, I’m really sorry you had to go through all of that, I can definitely understand how frustrating it must be. If you don’t mind me asking, was your original pin box labeled as a 1621, or was there something on our site that pointed you in that direction? I just want to make sure we understand where things went off track so I can get everything taken care of.

Very heavy duty.

Definitely recommend this hitch

by:

Very sturdy, well built hitch. Everything fit perfectly and bolted right in. I would highly recommend it.

by:

Love it, made a huge difference

by:

Seems great just installed hook camper up and took around town pulled great with new hitch

by:

Don’t feel any chucking while towing and I have my bed space when not towing.

by:

The absolute best hitch I have ever used. Stop your search and buy.

by:

Love the set up bolted right to my camper, I have not got to pull the camper anywhere yet but looking forward to seeing how well it works

by:

This thing is heavier than sin, but it doesn’t feel like it’s going to snap in half with a big load.

by:

The Gen-Y hitch is very stout & well built. Fit & finish was excellent.
Installed myself in about 30 minutes.

I love this hitch! It really changed the hard feel of pulling a heavy 5th wheel. The pin weight is still there but a much softer ride.

by:

Great purchase

by:

Great hitch for the money. creates a smooth ride all around.

by:

Makes life a lot easier l don’t have to remove my hitch from the bed of my truck to use it. Just flip the ball and there you go.
The gooseneck hitch actually pulls better than the 5th wheel hitch I had.
It is rather heavy so come up with a good plan for installing, I used the front end loader on my tractor which allowed me to do the install by myself.
Great product!!!

by:

Installing was OK, but had to do twice because I estimated the height wrong. Used a helper & floor jack with a 4x4 post to maneuver the hitch into position.
Am well pleased as I have plenty of room in the bed fo incxdentals, unlike the full bed I had with B&W Companion Hitch in place. Plus, the goose ball & tie downs store under the seat, & I don't need my tractor to load & unload the 5th wheel hitch. Works as advertised!

by:

After one year our Gen Y hitch works as it should. The shipping process was a problem and I blame that on the rail and freight companies. I highly recommend

The Gen y hitch is great ??. I changed to gen y from the Anderson hitch and have no regrets. Thanks gen y and thanks to E trailer.

by:

The Gen-Y gooseneck has been excellent! I now have approximately 12k miles on mine and it rides very nicely with very limited chucking and handles rough roads very well. I’d highly recommend that you contact Gen-Y BEFORE ordering to ensure you get the correct load rating product. Gen-Y and Etrailer have provided excellent customer and tech support! This product definitely frees up your truck bed and does require a precise line up to hitch.

W excellent product that now has 11k miles of towing 16k lb 5th wheel! For hookup that needs to be precise, I settled on the simple yellow foam ball on a telescoping metal placed on the ball in my truck bed. Perfect, one shot alignment, with no help! I’d recommend this product for all who tow 5th wheels!

by:

William was great. The actual sales part of this was beyond excellent I received my Gen-y in only a couple of days and my son and I easily installed the hitch on the trailer in less than an hour and a half. We used a floor jack to support it after we hitched it to the goofball in the truck and then backed up into the trailer pocket and then used the hydraulic jacks on the trailer to get it in perfect position and bolted it down.

After a year of use, we love this hitch. It rides so smooth going down the road, I have my bed space back, and most important I dont have to have a second hitch as I pull goose necks during the week and hated putting in a fifth wheel plate.

@Kevin really appreciate you coming back with the one year update. That’s awesome to hear it’s still riding smooth and making your setup easier day to day. Getting that bed space back and not having to swap hitches all the time is a huge win, especially if you’re bouncing between gooseneck and fifth wheel during the week. Sounds like it’s been doing exactly what you needed without any hassle, which is what you hope for with something like this. Are you still hauling the same trailers, or has your setup changed at all over the past year?

by:

Buying my hitch was a breeze. Alex was as great. Shipped out quickly from their warehouse. Something to check. If you have a Lippert 1621HD, you might need the shim kit also like I did. The Gen-Y hitch it self is only 175lbs but is a pain to do by yourself. I used my pickup bed, blocks and a shop jack to get the first two bolts going. Then used the bucket on my tractor to finish. It’s all about the leverage.
Haven’t used it yet. Hopefully soon.

This Gen-Y Gooseneck is very heavy duty, has great special features and fit perfectly. I hated to give up my B&W slider companion 5th wheel hitch but am very excited about having full use of the bed when I disconnect from the camper. It took two of us about one hour to come up with a plan and install this after the original 5th wheel pin box was removed. We engaged the gooseneck with the ball in the truck and set up a floor jack in the truck bed to support/adjust the height of the end to be bolted to the camper. Adjusted the truck back and forth and the camper up and down as need to get a couple of bolts started on each side then disengaged and moved the truck out of the way to complete the bolt up.

That's a pretty smart way to install the pin box, Timothy. I've told of a few inventive ways but this one I think is going to become what I suggest the next time someone asks for install tips.

I double checked with the manufacturer and the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box item # GY38FR is the correct option to replace your MORryde part number SPB72-1621HD. It works with pin weights from 1,500 lbs to 4,500 lbs so it is the correct pin box if you want to go with a Gen-Y. The torsion setup will work if your pin weight is at least 1,500 lbs. There's no lower capacity unit which is why the item # GY38FR was recommended. The MORryde...

You will also need safety chains # GY49GR to complete your setup, and an optional cover # GY99TQ is also available. What kind of 5th wheel do you have?
